Setup Help
This step-by-step description shows you precisely how you should proceed when you install the eminec MYmap trial version on your computer.
Please print out!
Our suggestion: Print out this page! This makes it easier to keep track of your progress. If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 6 or below), please set print layout to landscape mode, or parts of the page might be cropped (menu »File« > »Page setup...« > »Orientation: Landscape«). All other wide-spread browsers (including Windows Internet Explorer 7) do not exhibit this problem.
Before you start: You need to be logged on into your computer with administrator rights in order to perform installation. (There is no difference between administrators and limited users in the legacy systems Windows Me and 98, which means installation is always allowed. The differentiation is important for Windows Vista, 2003, XP and 2000.) If you are not sure what this means and if you are using your home computer, you have probably already signed on as an administrator.
Step 1: Download
Download the eminec MYmap installation program to your computer.
Why? You need the installation program if you want to use eminec MYmap.
How to do it: Click here: Download now. This will bring up a dialog (similar to the one shown on the right, depending on the browser software you use) that should be confirmed (click »Save«, but not »Run« or »Open«). Some seconds later (if your Internet connection is fast) or some 15 minutes later (if your Internet connection is very slow), this process will complete. You now have the entire installation program. Please save the installation program to a place where you can easily find it again later, e. g. your Desktop.
Step 2: Install
Launch the installation program you have just downloaded.
Why? You must run the installation program so that it can prepare eminec MYmap for use on your computer.
How to do it: Use Windows Explorer to locate the installation program you have just downloaded (select the same folder you have used for downloading). Double-click the icon of the installation program to start installation. A wizard will guide you through the process step by step, so that you basically just need to click »Next >« repeatedly. The installation program might ask you to restart your computer at the end. If this happens, please do so. (In some cases [download to a NTFS volume using MSIE 7 or MSIE 6 from XP SP2] the security warning shown on the right may appear when you double-click the installation program. Windows shows this kind of warning for all downloaded files from unknown sources; this is not specific to eminec MYmap. If you trust eminec, click »Run« to confirm you would actually like to install eminec MYmap.)
Step 3: First start
Launch eminec MYmap for the first time.
Why? You must run eminec MYmap in order to request your free 30-day trial license.
How to do it: Click »Start« (usually bottom left on your screen) and then »(All) programs«. A menu will appear; click »eminec MYmap XG«. Another menu will be displayed. Click »eminec MYmap XG« again. The program will start and ask you to select the language to use. Click »English«, then »OK«. In some circumstances, the language selection dialog might not appear. If this is the case, please skip this part of the step.
Step 4: Request trial license code
Now request your personal trial license code.
Why? eminec MYmap can be activated with a valid code only. Without a code, you can only view maps, but not edit them.
How to do it: The »Activate eminec MYmap« window should already be visible with the »Free trial« tab selected. The cursor is already located in the »E-Mail address« text box. Enter your e-mail address (e. g. john.smith@gmail.com), and click the »Get code« button. If everything has worked fine, some seconds later, your browser (e. g. Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer) should open and display a confirmation message. Please read the notice in the browser window, and then close it. If there are any problems, please make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet before you click the »Get code« button (maybe you use a special dial-in software program, e. g. America Online?)
Step 5: Check e-mail inbox
Please check your inbox for new e-mail messages.
Why? We have sent you a message with instructions for confirming your code request.
How to do it: Do whatever you usually do to get new e-mail messages. If there is no message from eminec, please wait for about five minutes. If you still have not got a message from eminec, it may accidentally have been moved to the junk/spam folder, or you have made a typo when you entered your e-mail address. (If you use Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express: Also try to click the »Send/Receive« button to speed up this process.)
Step 6: Click confirmation link
Confirm your code request.
Why? The confirmation inhibits abuse of your e-mail address by third parties.
How to do it: The message you have just received from eminec contains a link with which you confirm the code request. Please click the link. If everything has worked correctly, some seconds later your browser (e. g. Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer) should appear with a confirmation message. Please read the information in the browser window, then close it.
Step 7: Check e-mail inbox again
Please check your inbox for new e-mail messages.
Why? We have sent you a message containing your code.
How to do it: Do whatever you usually do to get new e-mail messages. If there is no message from eminec, please wait for about five minutes. If you still have not got a message from eminec, it may accidentally have been moved to the junk/spam folder.
Step 8: Copy or write down code
Copy the code to Windows clipboard, or write it down.
Why? You are going to enter the code into eminec MYmap in the next step.
How to do it: Select/highlight the code contained in the second message from eminec (but not any surrounding spaces), click the right mouse button, and select »Copy« from the context menu. Alternate method: use a sheet of paper and a pen to write down your code, or print the message. This code works with other computers too, so you may just use your sheet of paper if you would like to try eminec MYmap on other systems later (then you need to perform steps 1, 2, 3 and 9 from these instructions only).
Step 9: Enter code
Enter the code into eminec MYmap.
Why? This is how you complete activation.
How to do it: Close your e-mail program and your browser (if applicable), and the »Activate eminec MYmap« window (from step 4) should become visible again. Point the mouse cursor to the »Code« text box, click the right mouse button, and select »Paste« from the context menu. Alternate method: enter the code from your sheet of paper. Then click »OK«.
Step 10: Discover eminec MYmap!
Done! You may now start discovering eminec MYmap. Have fun! Please press the F1 key in eminec MYmap to open the comprehensive documentation that will accompany you with your first steps.
